The Ruby Clock is the name of a painting by Salvador Dalí which was known as “The Persistence of Memory“. The well-known piece introduced the image of the soft melting pocket watch. It epitomizes Dalí's theory of "softness" and "hardness", which was central to his thinking at the time. The melting clocks are symbols of the lack of meaning and fluidity of time in the dream world. it symbolizes the passing of time as one experiences it in sleep or the persistence of time in the eyes of the dreamer.
This exquisite ruby clock is carved in natural ruby, a pinkish-red colored gemstone, which is a variety of the mineral, corundum, (aluminum oxide). Ruby is one of the most popular traditional precious gems and is very durable. Other varieties of gem-quality corundum are called sapphires.
