Vincent Van Gogh was a 19th-century Dutch painter who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists ever to have lived. Despite being largely unrecognized for his work throughout his life, posthumously his fame grew dramatically, leading to his works being amongst the most well-known and sought after paintings ever created. His unique and recognizable style is known for bold colors and visible brush strokes, had a profound impact on modernism in art, influencing the likes of both Picasso and Matisse. In his personal life, Van Gogh struggled with both poverty and mental illness which added to his legacy as the archetypical tortured artist.
This ornate carving of 23,060 carats depicts several of Van Gogh’s most notable works including one of his most famous self-portraits, his “Starry Night” landscape and his iconic sunflowers. This masterpiece is carved from bright pink sapphire.
